Position: Director
of Religious Education
First
Parish Unitarian Universalist Church in Hingham, Massachusetts
(Old Ship) is looking for an experienced, full-time,
Director of Religious Education to work with our
children, youth and adults in our lifespan growth and learning
program. We seek a creative and confident spiritual leader
with a minimum of three years of experience to be compensated
with salary and benefits in accordance with UUA guidelines.

The Old Ship
religious education program creates a meaningful community
that values individuals of all ages and awakens their sense
of wonder, reverence and self-awareness through fellowship,
worship, education and service.
Responsibilities
Working with
an engaged congregation and a range of committees, the DRE:
- implements
and oversees all aspects of the children’s religious
education program, including:
- Spirit Play
curriculum for grades K-2
- Elementary
School Pillar Program for grades 3-5
- Neighboring
Faiths program for grade 6
- Our Whole
Lives (OWL) program
- Coming of
Age program
- guides youth
programming while supporting and supervising the Youth Advisor
- develops and
coordinates religious growth and learning for the whole community
in collaboration with the minister
- advocates for
the Religious Education mission throughout the community.
Old Ship is:
- a supportive
and energetic community just completing two years of work
with an interim DRE resulting in a strengthened program and
new commitment to lifespan religious education
- a Welcoming
Congregation located 15 miles south of Boston
- a mid-sized
congregation with about 250 members and an average weekly
attendance of 120 adults and 65 children and youth
- a congregation
that was gathered in 1635 and worships in the oldest wooden
church building in continuous use in the United States.
We are seeking
a candidate who:
- has a minimum
three years of experience as a DRE or UUA credentials
- is a creative,
energetic, outgoing spiritual leader for a growing community
- has strong
communication and interpersonal skills, and is able to effectively
minister to children, youth, and adults
- is well versed
in Unitarian Universalist curriculum, and experienced with
Spirit Play, OWL, and youth programming.
